The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) says it is neither in merger nor alliance talks with anybody or party, warning that anyone making contrary moves is on his or her own.

Addressing a press conference in Lagos Tuesday, the NNPP leadership stated that such move must only emanate from the founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, who is constitutionally the custodian of the party’s certificate of registration, and his founding team.

In a communique after the meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Working Committee (NWC) with the Board of Trustees (BoT) on Sunday in Lagos, which was presented at the conference by the Publicity Secretary, Mr. Abdulrazaq Abdulsalam, the party affirmed the superiority of its leadership over any other member.

It also ratified the expulsion of 16 members at different leadership positions in some states over gross misconduct bordering on anti-party activities, adding that the concerned persons refused to honour the invitation of the disciplinary committee to clear themselves of their charges.

Abdulsalam read out their names as: Dr. Tosin Odeyemi (Osun State), Mr. Peter Ologunokun (Ondo State), Prince Ibrahim Adekunle, Amb. Ajadi Oguntoyinbo and Mr. Olowu Olayemi, all from Ogun State, Mr. Kazeem Badmus and Mr. Tunde Oke (both from South West), and Barr. Femi Aina (Ogun West).

Others included Alhaji Sidi Bako (Nasarawa), Mr. Solomon Chukwu (Ebonyi State), Hon. Henfort Grorip (Plateau State), Col. Geoffrey Onyejegbu (rtd), PST. Ukachukwu and Stephen Onuigbo (all from Anambra State), and Hon. Rex Onajite Ogboru and Mr. Fred Uwangue from Delta State.

The meeting also passed a vote of confidence on the founder, Dr. Aniebonam, BoT Chairman, Dr. Temitope Aluko, and the National Chairman, Dr. Gilbert Agbo, and members of the NWC.

Therefore, the leadership requested INEC to immediately update the NNPP record according to its constitution and resolution of the NEC, NWC and BoT that “Dr. Gilbert Major Agbo is the National Chairman of NNPP, Comrade Oginni Olaposu Sunday is the National Secretary, and Dr. T.K.O. Aluko is the BoT Chairman.”

According to the communique, this is “with reference to the Supreme Court judgement that explicitly stated that it is only the political party that has the right to determine its membership, leadership, officers and candidates.”

Furthermore, “NNPP is not in any merger or alliance with any other political party and whoever discusses merger or alliances with Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the erstwhile presidential candidate who has been expelled from our party, does that at his/her own risk.”

Meanwhile, in line with the relevant provisions, the party said it has officially opened doors for new entrants and aspirants for presidential and other elective positions across national and state elections ahead 2027 and off-cycle elections.
