According to the waterways authorities, four passengers have been rescued and currently receiving medical attention, while six bodies were recovered at the scene of the accident which occurred at about 8:35pm on Tuesday while the boat was en route from Ilashe Beach House.

The Head of Public Affairs Unit at LASWA, Wuraola Alake, disclosed that the agencies’ search and rescue teams responded promptly, in collaboration with the marine police and other first responders, adding that search and rescue operations were ongoing for the remaining persons.

Stating that preliminary findings indicate a possible collision with a submerged object, LASWA and NIWA assure the public of thorough investigation and further updates as more information becomes available.

The agencies further condoled the families of the victims, while reiterating the importance of adhering to all safety regulations, including proper navigation practices and compliance with the ban on night travels.
