The Taiwo Afolabi Annual Maritime (TAAM) Conference returns this Friday, May 19, poised to continue grooming the interest of students in the maritime sector by highlighting topical issues.
Organised by the Maritime Forum of the Law Faculty, University of Lagos (UNILAG), in collaboration with SIFAX Group, the event returns for its fifth edition after about three-year break following the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020.
This edition, with the theme, “A Maritime Road Map Project: Making Nigeria a Leading Maritime Nation in the World,” holds at the JF Ade Ajayi Auditorium of UNILAG, the Head of Corporate Affairs, SIFAX Group, Mr. Muyiwa Akande, said.
A former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Temisan Omatseye, will be the keynote speaker while the Secretary-General, African Ship Owners Association, Ms. Funmi Folorunso, will lead the panel session.
Other dignitaries expected include the Executive Chairman, SIFAX Group, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, UNILAG Vice Chancellor, Folasade Ogunsola, among other maritime industry stakeholders.
It will be preceded Thursday by the Blueprint Competition, a debate on topical issues in the maritime sector featuring students from different universities.
According to the President of Maritime Forum, UNILAG, Goodness Ononogbu, this edition will bring together the brightest minds and experts in the sector, academics and business leaders to design a strategic roadmap that will position the country as a leading maritime nation in the world.
Ononogbu said that speakers have been carefully selected in order to generate ground-breaking insights on the conference theme.
