SCAN President, Moses Ebosele, described Akinola as a respected figure in journalism, “whose input has shaped the status of the Nigerian maritime industry over the years,” according to a statement on Sunday by the Secretary, Shulammite Olowofoyeku.

The association noted that Akinola’s appointment reflects a profound commitment by the minister to foster transparent governance and effective communication within the marine and blue economy sector.

“We are highly elated that the minister recognised the importance of having in advisory roles individuals who not only possess a keen understanding of the media but also share a genuine passion for promoting sustainable practices within our marine domain,” Ebosele stated.

“Akinola has consistently demonstrated these qualities throughout his career, displaying a profound dedication to reporting issues of operational efficiency, environmental sustainability and governmental accountability.

“As the Special Adviser on Media and Communications, we anticipate that his expertise will enhance public understanding and awareness of the critical initiatives being pursued by the ministry.”

The association further congratulated Akinola on a “well-deserved appointment,” while expressing eagerness to collaborate with the ministry for a robust marine and blue economy sector.

Meanwhile, SCAN has urged collaboration and transparency in reporting matters that significantly impact the industry and the Nigerian economy as a whole.

Akinola is the Chief Executive Officer of leading maritime media and public relations organisation, Ships & Ports Communication Company, and he is widely recognised for his contributions to the discourse on port reforms, maritime security, shipping development and the broader blue economy in Nigeria.

A highly respected maritime and corporate communications expert, he brings over 25 years of extensive experience and deep industry knowledge to his new role.

SCAN comprises maritime journalists in the mainstream media, including print, broadcast and digital), who are dedicated to the pursuit of truth, integrity and excellence in reporting.
