Towards a seamless and impactful implementation of the recently introduced electronic truck call app, Eto, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has designated 17 truck parks as batching points to the ports.
The agency disclosed that it arrived at the 17 categorisations of the batching points for all trucks doing business at the ports in consultation with stakeholders, according to a statement from its Corporate and Strategic Communications Division.
The categories include flatbeds, flatbeds/export containers and fish trucks. Others are reefer containers, arewa containers, multi-use, export, and roro barge operation.
To that end, it stressed that no truck from outside those parks would be allowed access to the ports, even as it expressed the hope of finally getting solution to the problem of truck congestion on the Lagos Port Complex and Tin Can Island Ports access roads.
The NPA assured that the hiccups being faced currently in the implementation of the call-up system were expected of such innovations and were being tackled as they arose.
Meanwhile, the NPA said it was working with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) for a more conducive operating environment for export cargo owners.
To that end, the agency instructed all truckers in this category to complete all documentation required by the Nigeria Customs Service, terminal operators and shipping lines before approaching any of the ports or be denied access into it.
