Prompted by an agenda to expand economic options for the industry and increased efficiency of services to the economy, the Nigeria International Maritime Summit (NIMS) is planning the sector’s maiden immersive virtual maritime exhibition and trade show.
The trade exhibition, scheduled for May 26 to 29, 2021, is being positioned as the country’s only “whole-of-value-chain” yearly maritime event by the Nigerian maritime industry’s organised private sector in a unique industry-wide collaboration, supported by the Federal Government.
A statement from the Programme Officer, Communications Team, Ose Omobhude, disclosed that in addition to the exhibition and trade show, “NIMS will feature discussions on cross-cutting aspects of maritime industry operations, business, law and policy.
According to the organisers, “the NIMS agenda is driven by a two-pronged strategy based on knowledge and policy development; and industry-wide service optimisation.
“While the former is to be led by discussions, policy advocacy and engagement at the annual event and ad-hoc industry engagement series, the latter will be achieved by the development of a reliable and efficient industry-driven maritime cluster for Nigeria.”
A non-governmental initiative, NIMS is supported by a high-level volunteer Governing Board comprising Mrs. Mfon Ekong Usoro, Mrs. Margaret Orakwusi, Mr. Greg Ogbeifun and Mr. Emeka Akabogu
It also has an industry-wide Advisory Council comprising Princess Vicky Haastrup, Mr. Kunle Folarin, Mr. Aminu Umar, Mrs. Jean Chiazor-Anishere (SAN), Dr. Bolaji Akinola, and Mr. Mahmud Bamanga Tukur.
