A governorship aspirant and member representing Etsako Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Anamero Dekeri, has called on people of Edo State to look beyond zoning and elect leaders based on merit and competence.

His position hinged on clamour for the zoning of the 2024 governorship seat to Edo Central Senatorial District.

Speaking Thursday in Abuja, Dekeri, who is contesting on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), pointed out that zoning breeds incompetence.

The federal lawmaker who is from Edo North also explained that his Senatorial District has been shortchanged out of the three Senatorial Districts in the state.

According to Dekeri, while Edo Central has produced two democratically elected governors since the creation of the state, Edo South has ruled the state four times as against once ruled by Edo North.

He said: “It is high time Nigerians began to see beyond leadership of turn by turn because in my view, it breeds incompetence and once an individual begins to have a sense of entitlement, it could bring out the worst of that human.

“We should be looking at a nation or state where we enthrone leaders on the strength of competence, commitment and the will to lead”.

He promised to prioritize the welfare of the people if given the mandate to govern the people.

Dekeri also scored the outgoing administration of Godwin Obaseki low in infrastructural development and welfare of the people.

He said: “I am committed to transparent and accountable leadership, prioritizing the needs of the people. We will work together to eradicate corruption, create a conducive business environment, and ensure that the benefits of democracy reach every corner of our beloved state.

“Edo State is a diverse tapestry of cultures, and I embrace this diversity as a source of strength. My administration will foster unity, building bridges and creating an atmosphere where every citizen feels a sense of belonging and contributes to the collective progress of Edo State.

“I have a track record of service, having initiated projects such as rural electrification, distribution of wheelchairs, relief efforts for flood victims, road projects, and borehole installations. These are tangible results that speak to my commitment to improving the lives of the people I serve.

“To the distinguished members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, I implore you to exercise your power with discernment and foresight in deciding who will carry our party’s flag The future of our party and Edo State is in your hands, and I trust that you will make a decision that will shape the destiny of our beloved state positively.”

He also promised to eradicate corruption, create a conducive business environment, and ensure that the benefits of democracy reach every nooks and crannies of the state.
