Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Mr. Kitack Lim, has commended human competency and capability in the heads of the Ministry of Transportation, stressing that leadership is the most paramount.
Kitack, speaking in Lagos Tuesday while commissioning the new ultra-modern headquarters of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) on Victoria Island, commended the Minister, Mu’azu Sambo, and heads of the various agencies under him while applauding the initiative of the modern edifice.
Expressing confidence in the minister and heads of the ministry’s various parastatals, Kitack said: “An important element is human competency and capability, with leadership being the most paramount to consider, which I have seen exhibited by the minister.
“He is an extraordinary and rare leader. I am very confident to look forward to more prosperous opportunities and development of maritime activities of Nigeria.”
On his part, Sambo thanked the IMO scribe for making out time to visit Nigeria and also having a first-hand opinion on the developmental strides in nation’s maritime sector.
He assured that Nigeria would strive to keep its maritime activities in line with best practices, while also embracing new technologies in the frontier of global maritime discourse.
Also speaking, the Chairman, House Committee on Maritime Safety, Education and Administration, Lynda Ikpeazu, commended the NIMASA management, led by the Director-General, Dr. Bashir Jamoh, while urging the agency to aim higher as there is room for improvement.
Also, Jamoh told the IMO scribe that for visiting Nigeria, “your name will remain in gold as long as Nigeria’s maritime administration is concerned.”
He intimated Kitack that NIMASA has was executing various projects, all with the aim of ensuring that a robust and conducive maritime environment is attained in Nigeria, adding that all that has been made possible by the support of stakeholders across board.
