A Finnish court has sentenced a Biafran separatist leader, Simon Ekpa, to six years in prison on terrorism-related charges.
Ekpa, who claims the title of Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, was convicted for reportedly inciting terrorist acts through his social media channels, which were said to have specifically targeted Nigeria.
According to sources, Ekpa has effectively already completed nearly one year of his sentence following his arrest and detention since November 2024.
The Nigerian government had previously issued a formal request for Ekpa’s extradition and now awaits a response from Finnish authorities following this sentencing.
