The Apapa Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) over the weekend erased its previous daily peak revenue collection of ₦18.2 billion set in October 2024 with a new high of ₦18.9 billion, the highest in its history so far.
Announcing the feat yesterday, Compt. Babatunde Olomu described the achievement as the beginning of greater exploits in 2025.
Dr. Olomu attributed the achievement to “officers’ dedication to duty, sustenance of compliance as a norm and promotion of industrial harmony in Apapa Port, as well as the Comptroller-General’s unwavering support.”
Compt. Olomu, according to a statement from the Command Public Relations Officer, Tunde Ayagbalo, had spearheaded a partnership with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in resolving all crises with port users and truckers over the Eto’o call-up system challenges, which had caused gridlock along the Apapa Port corridor.
Further to the directives of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, Olomu also help to prevent the planned strike by maritime workers and freight forwarders due to unresolved issues between them on one hand and APM Terminals on the other, the statement added.
This prevented a shutdown of port activities and promoted productivity with seamless import and export operations.
Speaking on the impressive revenue collection and harmonious working environment, Olomu said the “ports are critical national assets with direct impacts on the economy, touching on local and global trade.
“It is, therefore, imperative to keep them working, especially Apapa Port, which accounts for the highest volume of cargoes coming into Nigeria.”
He noted that in line with the CGC’s directive on stakeholder-engagement as a cardinal thrust, “the command intervened in the disputes involving sister-government agencies, terminal operators and stakeholders in the port.,” and also “succeeded in promoting uninterrupted trade and strengthening port users’ confidence.”
Meanwhile, Olomu described the ₦18.9 billion daily collection as the beginning of greater exploits this year. According to him, with the officers ever ready to detect concealments, under-declarations, false declarations and other antics geared towards duty evasion, the command will not lower its guard in the fight against smuggling.
