Domenico Tedesco has been named as the new Belgium head coach of the national side, by the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA).
This was announced in a statement by the country’s football governing body, as he will succeed Roberto Martínez on a one-and-half years contract.
The statement read; “The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) is proud to announce that Domenico Tedesco has been appointed as the new national team coach.

“A Taskforce was formed within the RBFA at the beginning of December, consisting of RBFA CEO Peter Bossaert and Operational Director Football Jelle Schelstraete, RBFA directors Sven Jacques and Pierre Locht, and Club Brugge president Bart Verhaeghe. This Taskforce was tasked with finding a new national coach, as well as advising on the further development of RBFA’s technical core.“
Domenico Tedesco will succeed Roberto Martnez as the Belgian Red Devils’ national coach up to the conclusion of the 2024 European Championship. He will sign a contract with the RBFA.
Tedesco, who is 37, has coached teams at Schalke 04, Spartak Moscow, and RB Leipzig in the past. He is well-known for playing an attacking brand of football with a lot of forward pressure and having top-tier international coaching experience.
His goal is to get the Belgian Red Devils into the 2024 European Championship in Germany. The opening qualifier will take place against Sweden on March 24 in Stockholm.
“For me it is a great honour to be the new head coach of Belgium. I’m really looking forward to the task and I’m extremely motivated. I had a very good feeling right from the first conversation,” Tedesco stated.
