The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it collected N17.9 billion revenue last Thursday – its highest daily revenue since inception, and by extension the highest by any command across the federation.
Announcing the feat to newsmen at Apapa Wednesday, Compt. Babatunde Olomu, who noted that the figure surpassed the command’s daily target by N8.9 billion in spite of over 50 per cent drop in cargo throughput, said the success was due to his officers’ intensified efforts at curbing revenue loopholes.
Olomu, enthusiastic about the development, described the feat as “the beginning of many revenue collection, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling exploits to be achieved in the course of discharging our statutory responsibilities.”
He disclosed a recent interception of two containers of used clothing and crusader soap, while assuring port users and stakeholders that officers and men under his leadership will continue to prioritise trade facilitation and strive to surpass the command’s targets.
More so, he urged port users to always abide by the tenets and etiquette of lawful operations, such as obeying the extant import and export guidelines, prompt and accurate payment of duty and promotion of regular engagement in the national interest.
Meanwhile, he said the feat was a way of celebrating Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi’s one year in office, with his inspiring and motivating leadership greatly contributing to the achievement.
