Alleged attacker of President Buhari, Mohammed Jamilu Gundari, flanked by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed (right), and Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, while explaining his action to newsmen in Bernin Kebbi…Friday
Contrary to the rumour that a man attacked President Muhammadu Buhari during his visit to Kebbi State on Thursday, the man, Mr. Mohammed Jamilu Gundari, said he neither attacked Mr. President nor was shot by security operatives. Rather, he only tried to show his “emotional love for him.”
The 30-year old had been whisked away by security operatives after the Governor of Kebbi State had halted his approach to touch the president, who was inspecting the agro produce on display at the Agricultural Fair of the Argungu International Fishing Festival in Argungu, Kebbi State.
Gundari, who was presented to the media in Birnin Kebbi Friday, apologised to President Buhari and Nigerians for breaching the protocol to meet him personally, stating that he was overwhelmed with love for his life-time role model.
“Yesterday was a different day for me because as a graduate of Public Administration (second class lower) from Uthman Dan Fodio University in Sokoto State, it took a lot of risk to get the attention of Mr. President despite the well-structured security architecture at the venue.
“I’m very sorry for the disturbance I caused, it was an emotional love for the person who has shown integrity and honesty. No one in Nigeria has ever questioned or accused him of looting any money – as the former head of state, minister or even now President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Responding on his desire to meet the president, which prompted his breach of protocol, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, who flanked him alongside Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, assured that they would arrange his meeting with Mr. President.
Mohammed described Gundari as a young man passionate about Mr. President and has been following his political career, adding that “all the story about him trying to attack Mr. President, even the story that he has been shot by the DSS, are false.
“The only mistake he made was that he breached the protocol. I can assure you that the Governor of Kebbi State and I will inform Mr. President to have an audience and handshake with him as one of his loyal supporters.”
Also, Bagudu presented him a book on President Buhari, written by John Pius, to give him more knowledge of his “idol.”
