By Chidubem Anthony

Outstanding performers, including members of staff and other industry stakeholders whose contributions aided the realisation of its mandate of driving the sector in 2018 will be honoured at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Maritime Awards billed for Lagos this weekend.

The event, billed to be graced by the former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd), Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, and hosted by the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, will hold on January 12, 2019 at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island at 6p.m.

Themed, “Our Journey to Excellence,” the awards will be an evening to celebrate the agency’s core values of commitment, accountability, professionalism, integrity, teamwork, excellence, leadership and discipline, according to a statement by the NIMASA Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Isichei Osamgbi.

The award categories include Shipping Company of the Year 2018 (Dry Cargo), Shipping Company of the Year (Wet Cargo), Maritime Education and Training Institute of the Year, Manning Agent of the Year, and Seafarers’ Employer of the Year.

Also, the agency’s members of staff agency will be honoured for outstanding performance while an Employee of the Year will be picked from the 11 winners of the Employee of the Month awards from January to November 2018.

Dignitaries and stakeholders expected at the occasion include the governors of Lagos, Ogun, Enugu, Ondo, Kaduna, Kebbi and Borno states, members of the National Assembly, ministers and the diplomatic corps.

Others are industry giants like Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola and Dr. Nike Akande, among others, as well as royal fathers, including the Emir of Kano, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.

Tagged, “NIMASA Merit Awards and Corporate Dinner,” the event will also showcase an array of stakeholders in the Nigerian maritime industry, some of who will be recognised for their outstanding contributions to the realisation of the agency’s mandate of driving the sector in 2018.

The NIMASA Merit Awards and Corporate Dinner is an event of glitz, glamour and glitter to mark the agency’s end-of-year activities.
