  • The Great Wall of China… This stunning amazement is a UNESCO World Heritage site, was continuously built from the 3rd Century BC to the 17th Century AD on the country’s northern border as the great military defence project of successive Chinese Empires. With a total length of over 20,000 kilometers, the Great Wall begins in the east at Shanhaiguan in Hebei province and ends at Jiayuguan in Gansu province in the west. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987.

The People’s Republic of China has condemned the United States’ planned withdrawal from the United Nations Cultural and Education Agency UNESCO, saying it is “not the action that a responsible major country should take.”

The foreign ministry’s reaction followed the U.S.’ declaration on Tuesday that it would quit UNESCO effect from December 2026, claiming bias against Israel.

Meanwhile, China has expressed support for the United Nations and other international bodies. Foreign Ministry spokesman, Guo Jiakun, noted that this is the third time the U.S. has withdrawn from UNESCO.

“It has long been in arrears with its membership fees,” Guo told newsmen on Wednesday. “We call on all countries to reaffirm their commitment to multilateralism and take concrete actions to support the international system with the UN at its core.”

U.S. President Donald Trump had also in 2017, during his first term in office, ordered the country’s withdrawal from UNESCO. President Joe Biden later re-established membership.

Since re-taking office, Trump has indicated he would pull the U.S. out of several multilateral institutions, including the World Health Organisation and the Paris climate agreement, and has launched punishing trade tariffs against allies and foes alike.
